We got an opportunity to speak to a plant manager of a Midwestern bottle-blowing plant about his experiences with two of our iSight 2020 NF vision solutions and working with the kmV team. Topics covered include:

What kind of Quality Issues Were You Dealing with that Initiated Your Call to kmV?
QM: The quality issues we were dealing with included neck rings, bent necks, pinched necks, sidewall contamination, and base folds as well as a number of visual defects on the containers. Bottles that aren’t perfectly formed can jam up the fillers and cause the line to go down. Our customer requires 100% inspection of all containers.
Tell me about your vision solution – what types of inspections are you running?
QM: We are running two iSight 20/20 NF (Neck Finish) solutions right now
The first one is a two-camera 20/20 looking at Neck and Sidewall
- The neck Camera is looking for Short bottle neck width, Neck Rings, Neck Folds, Bent Neck, Pinched Neck, and Haze
- The base Camera is looking for Base Folds, Rocker Bottom, and Contamination in the sidewall
A single camera 20/20 looking at
- Base Camera is looking for Base Folds, Rocker Bottom, and Contamination in the sidewall
The bottles have a unique base and some of the feet are folding or are misformed. The base issues were causing filling issues with our customer’s lines
What Kind of Results Have You Had Since the Solution Was Commissioned?
QM: We’ve had our single-camera system running for 2 years on one line and it has always been fine.
Our 2-camera system was installed less than two months ago. We’ve run 800,000+ bottles through it since installation and we’ve not had one complaint from our customer.
We are thinking about upgrading the older single-camera system to match the newer two-camera system.

QM: The customer service is amazing and you’ve made the technology easy to use! These systems were “Truly” turnkey!
The kmV team was in place a couple of hours before the system showed up. The units arrived fully assembled and the kmV team had them installed within a couple of hours of uncreating them. Fifteen minutes after installation they had me trained on how to modify the tools and parameters!
All we had to do was set up the encoders before the systems arrived.
Why Did You Choose kmV?
QM: Their vision systems are great.
- Truly turnkey solutions – 2-3 hours of setup and 15 minutes later — all because of the work put into the systems before they shipped.
- KVM’s systems are very easy and very intuitive to use. I had a 20-minute training after the system was installed and I was off training new tools. From my perspective – my ability to make adjustments by myself can’t be easier!
