Case Study - Code Verification
The Issue
An international purveyor of high-end soaps, lotions, and beauty products utilizes contract packagers to package their products. To maintain their high product standards and excellent reputation, they mandated that all labels on every container must be verified to be correct.
The co-packer would be required to deploy vision systems on every line to ensure 100% product inspection – at their expense.
The Solution
In order to successfully conduct the verification mandate, every label has a Label Control Number (LCN) in both 2-D and human-readable code formats. These codes serve to verify that the most up-to-date version of the label is applied to every product. They also serve as a match code to verify that front and rear labels are paired properly.
The co-packer contacted kmV to discuss the mandate and the challenges it presented. During the ensuing Applied Automation Audit conducted at the plant, it was found the kmV’s standard 2-camera iSight 20/20 Code Verifier offered a reliable and economical solution that would meet the 100% product inspection mandate.
The Code Verifier’s easy-to-use HMI makes changing 2D match strings a snap – which is important because label changes happen several times a day. The standard solution was also flexible enough to be deployed across every line in the plant – many running multiple-sized products daily.
Because the co-packer had limited resources, kmV also installed and validated the turnkey solutions.
Mandate Requirements Met
With the validated iSight 20/20 Code Verifiers in place, the co-packer has been able to meet their customer’s mandate of 100% label verification and will be able to do so in the future thanks to the solution’s flexibility.
kmV Offers Real Impacts on Real Business.
